This film is a collaborate student production of students studying at the KHM (Kölner Hoschschule für Medien) and the Dortmund Filmschool. I worked on this film as a floor-manager. The Film has been shown at numerous Filmfestivals and has amongst other awards received the prestigious Giffoni Award for the best Childrens film.
East- Berlin 1987 – the city is preparing for it’s 750 years anniversary. 10-year-old Kati lives with her brother Matthias and her mom in a council flat in Berlin – Hohenschoenhausen.
After Kati is talked into taking part in a dancing competition at school she is desperate. Together with Alina, a sporty classmate, she starts to practice in the halls of the council flats.
But for the competition they still need the right music – the west-hit “Surrender” by Jennifer Rush?
The film tells the story of a new friendship – in a time where it is most important to keep up appearances.
